Abstract

The data acquisition system developed for the central detector of the OBELIX experiment at the Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) at CERN is described.. The system is based on a VME multiprocessor that formats, collects, and makes a rough online analysis of the events digitized by high-speed (100-MHz) flash-ADCs (analog-to-digital converters). Full online event reconstruction is also provided. The system is in routine operation. The event rate ranges from 20 events/s when the event size is approximately 80 kB (all wires and strip hit) to 110 events/s when the event size is approximately 2 kB (two wires and two strips hit). The maximum rate foreseen for the experiment is approximately 50 events/s.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
