Abstract

The role of hormones in triggering cell death has been controversial. In this issue of Molecular Cell, Li etal. (2019) have defined a molecular pathway where an unexpected estrogen receptor, phosphodiesterase 3A, allows its partner Schlafen-12 to inhibit survival pathways, ultimately leading to apoptosis.
