THE DAPHNIPHYLLUM ALKALOIDS

Abstract

This chapter reviews the recent studies on Daphniphyllum alkaloids isolated from the genus Daphniphyllum , the proposed biogenetic pathway, and the syntheses of Daphniphyllum alkaloids based on these biogenetic proposals. The biogenetic pathways, the total syntheses, and the biomimetic synthesis of the Daphniphyllum alkaloids are described in the chapter. There are currently more than 60 Daphniphyllum alkaloids of known structure. The chapter presents the reports on Daphniphyllum alkaloids that have been published between 1987 and 2002, and provides an update of the previous review by Yamamura in 1984. As the structures and stereochemistry of these alkaloids are complex and the representation of the structure formula has not been unified, all of the natural Daphniphyllum alkaloids are listed in tabulated form in the chapter.
