Abstract

Why do commercial companies want to sponsor charities? The answer is that they can see a benefit for the company — that is, their profits will increase. Commercial companies must make money for their shareholders. The Inland Revenue does not view sponsorship as a gift. And the Charity Commission, who oversee the activities of charities in England and Wales, cautions charities to take great care before entering into a sponsorship agreement, especially where the charity's name or logo is to be used by the commercial company.
