Abstract
The results found for the damping of P between about 10° and 90° by Berzon, Passechnik & Polikarpov are analysed for the parameters in the modified Lomnitz law. They are decisive against elasticoviscosity (α= 1), but do not decide between the possible values 0 and 0.2 for a in that law. Comparison with the damping of the 14-monthly free nutation suggests about 0.13.
