Abstract
The design of thermal insulation system is crucial for the LNG cargo containment system (CCS). In this paper, a heat transfer model for a 40 m3 independent type B mock-up tank was proposed. A cryogenic test platform was built and the liquid nitrogen boil off rate (BOR) of the mock-up tank was simulated and tested. Consistency between simulation results and test results verified the accuracy of the heat transfer model. In the following, to predict the LNG BOR of the mock up tank under International Gas Code (IGC) conditions, several influence factors were taken into consideration and reasonable conversions were made. It was found that the test evaporation rate is 1.82%/day, the conversed BOR of new independent type B LNG mock-up tank is 1.27%/day and they are in good agreement with the simulations.
