Abstract

Abstract Diamond and DLC films were coated on cemented carbide inserts by DC plasma jet CVD and vacuum cathode multi-arc deposition (VCAD), respectively. Cutting experiments were carried out in the digital-control processing center; Al alloy piston production line and aluminum bronze worm gear production line. The results showed that the wear life of diamond and DLC-coated cutting inserts were prolonged by tens of times; the temperature of the cutting insert and cut material has been lowered and the processing quality of the workpiece improved. The diamond and DLC-coated tools have great advantages for processing abrasive materials compared to cemented carbide tools.
