Abstract
The current situation of the shunting locomotives in Europe compared to the whole railway sector is currently the most neglected section. Although these locomotives are necessary for helping the passenger and freight transport, this section is the least financed area in the section and that's why it needs a re-think. In this article we are going to show the current problems and some possible future solutions. The possible future of the hydrogen-powered vehicle is mentioned, as well as the introduction of the Digital Rail Coupling (DAC).
