Abstract

The text of the tract on cube duplication and angle trisection by Abū Sahl al-Qūhī (here denoted as E) is taken from the Cairo ms. 40m, f. 226v–227r (copied in the 18th century). Through the courtesy of J.P. Hogendijk, I have had access to another copy, the Istanbul ms. Aya Sofya 4832/28, f. 147v (copied in the 11th century; cf. Sezgin, p. 318, no. 4). The portion of this latter ms. dealing with the angle trisection has already been edited in Arabic, with Turkish and English translations, by A. Sayili (Belleten, 1962, 26:693–700), and I have found his text especially helpful in deciphering the ms. readings. After the notes to text E below I list variants from the Istanbul ms. (denoted E*).
