Abstract

Abstract The product of reaction of α-pinene with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate has been established by X-ray crystallographic analysis to be 3-chlorosulfonyl-1,8,8-trimethyl-3-aza-tricyclo [5.2.1.0] nonan-4-one. The crystals are orthorhombic, a = 7.805(2), b = 11.860(3), c = 14.157(4) Å, space group P212121, Z = 4. The structure was refined to R = 0.065 and Rw = 0.069 by full-matrix, least-squares methods, using 599 independent reflections measured with a single-crystal diffractometer. The absolute configuration was determined by the anomalous dispersion of the S and Cl atoms.
