Abstract

The phase formation in the Al-B system under high pressures and temperatures as well as of crystal structures of aluminum borides forming in the system have been studied. The existence of AlB2, Al16, AlB25, AlxB12 have been detected by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. It has been shown that the crystal structures of boron-rich high-pressure synthesized Al16, AlB25, AlxB12 phases are closely related to the crystal structures of known boron modifications.
