The Crystal and Molecular Structure of a Solid Crystalline Phase of the Mesogenic Trans-4-N- Propyl-(4′-Cyanophenyl)-Cyclohexane (Pch 3)

Abstract

ABSTRACTWe report on the molecular and crystal structure of the solid phase, of the title compound (PCH 3) which has a melting point of 42. 9 C.The crystal data are: a = 15. 079(4), b = 12. 392(3), c = 15. 245(4) A, s = 95. 19(1)°. The space group is C2/c with 8 molecules in the elementary cell. The molecular structure is discussed with special regard to the torsion angles between the parts of the molecule. The crystal packing is discussed and compared with those of PCH 8, CB 3 and CCH 3.
