Abstract
The plastic deformation in nearly dislocation-free NiAl single crystals loaded along 〈0 0 1〉 is initiated at a well-defined temperature. This is found by the anisothermal creep test. The initiation temperature is rate-independent at low heating rates and defines a critical point.
