Abstract

Recent developments in West-German Marxist Psychology are described. The "Kritische Psychologie" claims to have developed with its "functional-historical" analysis a method which allows the assessment of the relevance of existing theories and the derivation of relevant new theories. While it does not quite live up to these claims, the `functional-historical" analysis, With its emphasis on social-structural variables and functional analysis, may offer an interesting counterbalance to the individualistic orientation prevalent in present day social psychology.
