Abstract
It is shown rigorously that the critical exponent vperpendicular to for a directed true self-avoiding walk on an arbitrary self-similar carpet is 1. Hence the simulation values by Yao et al (1990) represent an artefact due to finite-size effects. The corresponding exponent for a Levy flight with parameter u is max(1, 1/u).
