This historical-social study aimed to describe the process of creation of the Specialization Course in Nursing - Residence Modality in the Ophir Loyola Hospital in 1998, and to discuss the strategies used by nurses who participated at the creation of the Specialization Course in Nursing - Residence Modality for their deployment. The historical sources of the study, consisting of written and oral documents, were classified and analyzed in the light of Pierre Bourdieu's Social Theory. The research revealed that the creation of the Residency in Nursing for nurses in the State of Pará has contributed to upgrading the professional habitus of these agents, and to set the game between those who participated in the process of creating the Course.
