Abstract

THE foundation of modern counseling programs in schools and colleges was laid before the present war and, in fact, developed largely from the Army personnel program of the First World War.' A brief review of this foundation will indicate the probable directions in which future college counseling programs will develop. Experiences of the past indicate that personnel procedures are similar in military, industrial, and educational institutions. For this reason we turn to the Army experiences, the largest-scale personnel programs, to discover what can be adapted to our counseling programs for students.
