Abstract

The Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) was formed in 1967, following recommendations of a 1965 intersociety conference on residency education and subsequent authorization and funding by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The Council is charged with the duty of working to improve all aspects of residency training in obstetrics and gynecology and the responsibility for developing programs in this area in accord with the aims and purposes of the organizations represented. Current activities include consultative services for program directors, in-training examinations for evaluation of residents' progress, annual conferences of program directors, and development of basic curricula in residency programs. Future projections call for continued study of the changing responsibilities of the obstetrician-gynecologist in community institutions and health agencies, and preparation of the resident for his developing role in these changes. An assessment of the current programs and future activities of the Council is presented.
