Abstract

Abstract Aluminum alloy AA 6061-T6 substrates were dip-coated in a poly-N- methylsilazane, —[CH2SiNCH3]n—, solution with cross-linking catalyst. The coatings were pyrolyzed at 400°C in order to transform them into an amorphous Si3N4 ceramic coating. The coated substrates exhibited improved corrosion and pitting resistance, and showed little degradation in polarization resistance after 21 days of exposure in 3.5% NaCl solution.
