Abstract

AbstractCopper heating tubes from a glucose evaporator have been examined to determine the cause of their corrosion. The progressive degree of attack along the length of the tubes on the liquor side suggested that the moto‐electric effect was the major factor leading to reduction in their wall thickness. Tests on a model evaporator apparently confirm this explanation.
