Abstract
The behaviour of a modified silicate (the empirical formula of which is CaO . xSi0 2. nH 2 O) as an inhibitor for the corrosion of iron has been investigated. The substance is an effective inhibitor both in unbuffered and buffered solutions. It appears to prevent corrosion by generating polysilicate anions in solution which are adsorbed at the iron surface.
