Abstract

The liquidus boundaries of the tin-lead system have been determined experimentally from 0 to 80 at. pct lead, and the eutectic point was found to occur at 25.86 at. pct lead at 456.363 K. These and other phase boundary data have been correlated by a Gaussian plus Krupkowski formalism, and the consequent thermodynamic values are compared with the relevant experimental data. The elucidation of search regions required for a subsequent unambiguous calculation of the liquidus boundaries is also discussed.
