Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between catch-up growth and insulin resistance in children with full term small for gestational age. Methods 50 cases of full term but small for gestational age (SGA) and 50 cases of full term and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) from the Children’s Hospital Affiliated to Medical College of Zhejiang University were selected as the research objects. All were born in our hospital, established files and received routine and long-term health examination. The birth condition, catch-up growth and correlation between catch-up growth velocity and insulin resistance were analyzed. Results The height, weight, head circumference values of study group were significantly lower than those of the control group (P 0.05) . △HAZ of SGA children in 0-6 months was positively correlated with Homa-IAI (r=0.488, P<0.05) . In addition, the team within factorial analysis showed that birth weight factors was more outstanding, and some indexes were affected significantly (P<0.05) . Conclusion Catch-up growth phenomenon is obvious for SGA at early period and insulin resistance has not yet occurred. Key words: Full-term small for gestational age infants; Early catch-up growth; Insulin resistance
