Abstract

Two accelerated corrosion tests (immersions in aerated 3% NaCl and a salt chamber) were used for two low alloyed CrMo steels and two non-alloyed steels in parallel with long-term (5 year) tests on an atmospheric corrosion station. Correlations between the accelerated corrosion test and the corrosion station test are established allowing the possibility of predicting long-term atmospheric corrosion behavior based on accelerated corrosion tests only. The conclusions seem to be applicable to a number of similar materials.
