Abstract

Professor Vogel's article is an introduction to the literature of the business corporation as government and a valuable analysis of the problem itself-the publicness of the corporation and the legitimacy and accountability of its government. His essay indicates both the impact of the contemporary counter-corporate movement and its limits, inherent in working within populist ideas. When people think of the business corporation as a public institution rather than a private one, there are consequences, he suggests, but whether the elects have been or are likely to be really basic concerning who wields power and for what ends is more doubtful.
