The cooperative effect between pyrene and a radical scavenger in stabilization of LDPE as studied by chemiluminescence

Abstract

Using CL method a significant synergistic effect has been observed in LDPE subjected to γ-irradiation in the presence of air upon incorporation of 2 wt% of a hindered phenol (Sumilizer MDP-S or Irganox 1330) and pyrene. The cooperative effect between these two molecules exists even in the absence of irradiation. The different possible mechanisms are discussed.
