Abstract

Hyperplastic polyps are non-neoplastic and are fundamentally distinct from adenomas. Currently available data suggest that, at most, distal colonic hyperplastic polyps are weak markers for small proximal adenomas in asymptomatic persons. There are insufficient data at this time to support distal hyperplastic polyps alone as an indicator for colonoscopy.
