Abstract

Whether a law librarian with an MLS degree needs to also have a JD degree is a long-standing debate in law librarianship. This article examines the literature to present both sides of the issue and to explore factors involved such as the kind of position the librarian holds, the gender of the librarian, and the type of law library. The author speculates about the reasons for the current status of the controversy and makes some implications for the professionals and the profession.
