Abstract

The article analyses the theoretical and methodological ideas of artists-pedagogues who emigrated abroad in the first half of the twentieth century. The works of such teachers as O. Arkhypenko, V. Hagenmeister, E. Kozak, S. Kolos, V. Lasovsky, K. Malevych, M. Samokysh, and V. Sichynskyi are analyzed. The fundamental ideas of the artists, which were highlighted in their theoretical works, are outlined. Several opinions are formulated regarding the purposes of writing these works and their role in developing art education within the studied period. The article summarises and generalizes the results of the analysis of the scientific and pedagogical potential of the works of migrant artists of the first half of the twentieth century and notes several distinctive aspects. The first aspect is that, broadly, the article was divided into theoretical works of historical and art historical content and methodological works. The second defined aspect is the works of artists and pedagogues who found themselves in exile and played an essential role in enriching and shaping the public opinion of other countries, which were influenced by Ukrainian artistic and peda-gogical ideas. 
 The author analyses the reflection of the level of Ukrainian art education in the first half of the twentieth century and describes its original nature, which Ukrainian emigrants proposed to various art educational institutions worldwide. 
 An opinion is formed on the work of Ukrainian artists-teachers (who were in emigration) in various vocational and higher art education institutions, who have created their Ukrainian community outside Ukraine, in different parts of the world, preserving the authenticity of teaching fine arts not only to Ukrainian students abroad but also to representatives of other countries of Europe and America.
 The article provides recommendations on various areas of studying fine arts in higher and vocational education institutions and their use in modern theory and practice.
