Abstract

ABSTRACTFamily-based agroecological agriculture has historical antecedents registered from: the life stories of the precursors of the different “agro-cultures” practiced; the experiences of design and implementation of agroecological systems; and the social activism of people and organizations aiming to stop the neoliberal politics that undermine the sustainability of rural ways of life. The general objective of this study was to reconstruct the recent past and the current situation of agroecological initiatives in Panama. The results show that agroecological reconversions portray the contribution of the incorporation of agroecological practices in the general persistence of small-scale family agriculture in Panama.
