Abstract

Bevan's (2006) consequence model of partner jealousy expression was proposed to understand the responses of an individual (“jealousy target”) whose partner expresses jealousy. This project employs data from community members and students who recalled actual romantic partner jealousy expressions to expand upon and refine this consequence model. Path analyses determined three major model refinements: (1) the inclusion of self-uncertainty; (2) negative jealousy-related emotion was multidimensional; and (3) these cognitions and emotions culminated in attack and aggression responses. However, proposed positive components of the model were removed to maximize model fit. Implications for jealousy expression research are discussed.
