Abstract

1. British Pipistrelle bats dosed with 14C-labelled benzoic acid produced a single metabolite, hippuric acid, in contrast to the Indian fruit bat which appears unable to synthesize this conjugate. 2. 14C-labelled phenylacetic acid was also conjugated with glycine in the Pipistrelle bat, which compares with the Asian, African and South American bats studied previously.
