Abstract

This paper discusses the extension of the conjugate beam method to the study of the deformation of rigid-frame structures. The first part of the paper deals with the elastic analysis of such structures while the second part demonstrates the application of the proposed method to the deformation analysis of the structures under ultimate loads. The relationship between the conjugate frames and the actual structure is derived by means of the “generalized” theorems of area moment. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the procedure.
