Abstract

It has been shown by specific calculations for the 32S nucleus that the configurational splitting of the giant resonance is conserved even after the residual interaction has been taken into account. The results for the following two cases are compared: 32S nucleus as a closed sub-shell 1 d 5 2 + 2 s 1 2 and as soft core distorted, in particular, under the influence of the quadrupole vibrations. The most general features of the dipole absorption curve are comparatively stable with respect to the perturbation of the wave function of the ground state, and yet the details of this curve are substantially different. The results of the calculations reproduce correctly the characteristic features of the absorption curve, in particular, a very considerable width of the absorption region. We explain why the left part of the absorption curve is excited in the reaction (p, γ 0) and why the elastic scattering cross section has two maxima. The calculations are poor fore the photonucleon spectra.
