Abstract

Thermodynamic parameters and unperturbed dimensions for block copolymers of polyisoprene and polystyrene have already been discussed. In this part of the work, the hydrodynamic factor ( α η ) was determined directly from viscosity data (in three solvents) referred to [ η] θ measured under theta conditions. The displacement length parameter, ( r 2 Z ) 1 2 , is reported for the series of copolymers, Z being the number of links corrected for isomeric composition and weight fraction of the polystyrene block. Long-range interactions have been investigated from viscosity and osmotic data; the binary cluster integral has been computed. The results are discussed in relation to the composition of the copolymer and its molecular weight. The results show the general applicability of two parameter theories derived for homopolymers with the addition of one further variable, i.e. composition.
