Abstract
Abstract The objective of this article is to introduce the condition‐based paradigm for reliability and the use of condition information to assess and maintain product reliability. Repeated measurement of product condition parameters, also known as degradation data, can be used to assess the product reliability and make decisions about product maintenance. After describing several examples of degradation data, we introduce some statistical models and methods, including random effects models and stochastic models, for analyzing degradation data. These methods are illustrated with real examples. We conclude the article with a discussion of continuous monitoring of product condition and system health. Suggestions for further reading are also given.
