Abstract

A simple route to α-substituted β-(phenylethynyl)-keto-esters has been investigated. Ethyl-substituted phenylpropioloylacetates were obtained as the main products of condensation between ethyl phenylpropiolate and ethyl phenyl-, p-tolyl-, p-methoxyphenyl-, p-chlorophenyl-, and α-naphthyl-acetates in the presence of sodium ethoxide. Two anomalous by-products were tentatively identified.
