Abstract

One of the perplexing tasks for the Western student who seeks to understand the forces behind Indian social and economic developments is to distinguish between consciously held policies and other causes. The main difficulty is that the true nature of Indian policy in many fields of action is beclouded by ambiguous statement and by inconsistencies between declaration and practice. In this article I shall attempt to identify and clarify some of the basic influences and purposes that underlie policy and practice in Indian labor relations. (Author's abstract courtesy EBSCO.)
