Abstract

In recent years, a new area of study has appeared in colleges and universitics across the country--computer science. At the same time, people working in other subject areas have become interested in computing. This has resulted in new challenges for librarians responsible for collection development. Since computing is a new field of study and is changing constantly, it poses unique problems for the academic library. Guidelines are needed for developing and maintaining computing collections. Preparation for selection, collection development policies and tools, and collection maintenance are among the topics covered, as this paper attempts to provide guidance to the concerned librarian.
