Abstract

A random coding bound is derived for block coded transmission over channels characterized by a deterministic finite-memory part followed by the addition of white Gaussian noise. (Intersymbol interference channels are a special case.) According m this bound, a "product-measure cutoff rate" can be defined quite naturally for such a class of channels.
