Abstract

Natural isolates of barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) and the related viruses, lychnis ringspot virus (LRSV) and poa semilatent virus (PSLV), generally contain at least 3 RNA components, although some BSMV isolates contain only two. RNA components with apparent molecular weights of 1.4 and 1.25 million are common to all these viruses. The Rothamsted isolate of BSMV which contains these two RNAs and a third of apparent molecular weight 1.15 million requires all three components to infect Chenopodium amaranticolor.
