Abstract

1. (1) Three fractions of the pancreatic lipase m human sera have been identified. 2. (2) All 3 fractions were activated by sodium cholate in vitro. Fraction A alone was inhibited in vitro by sodium chloride. Fraction B was inhibited by the intravenous administration of heparin. Fraction C was not affected by the above treatments. 3. (3) Our results suggest that fraction A is not a distinct enzyme, but an activator or cofactor normally present in the human sera. 4. (4) Intravenous administration of heparin should not be given to patients before serum is drawn for lipase determination. 5. (5) Variation of fraction B is probably related to genetic difference.
