Abstract

The tetracationic macrocycle cyclo[2](2,6-di(1H-imidazol-1-yl)pyridine)[2](1,4-dimethylene-benzene) (14+) acts as a large, flexible ‘molecular box’ binding linear n-aliphate dianion (from oxalate dianion (2) to sebacate dianion (10)) with 1:1 stoichiometry and ‘outside’ binding modes in DMSO-d6. In solid state, 14+ constructs a series of supramolecular organic frameworks (SOFs) with these anionic direction. Initial study of SOF-10 (the SOF structure formed from 14+ and sebacate dianion (10)) show highly selective CO2 absorption ability over N2.
