Abstract

Faced with the problems of modern education, scholars need to learn from the wisdom of ancient educational resources, to discover the educational principles and laws behind the positive impact of traditional education and to rethink the meaning of education based on social reality and with a philosophical dialectic attitude. This article compares the educational thought of Confucius and Jesus based on the context of their times, and restores the educational thought of Confucius and Jesus through the lens of comparative pedagogy. The educational thought of Confucius and Jesus is analysed from three aspects: the essence of education, the goals of education and the practice of education. Confucius' and Jesus' interpretations of their respective original ideas of "heaven" and "God" gave rise to the specific ideas of "benevolence" and "divine love". The educational ideas of Confucius and Jesus have been tested and developed in concrete educational practice. Through a comparison of the educational thought of Confucius and Jesus, the historical role of their educational thought is analysed in a critical manner, revealing the conflict and convergence between the two. It also provides a rational application of the principles shared by Confucius and Jesus in the comparison of their educational philosophies to the needs of contemporary education, and provides theoretical resources to address the contemporary educational crisis in China.
