Abstract

The rates of formation and interactions between the constituent phases of amalgams prepared from different types of amalgam alloy may be studied by the electrochemical behaviour of the set amalgams. In particular, an anodic sweep of setting amalgams in a suitable electrolyte reveals differences in the metallurgical constitution of the amalgams. Repetitive sweeps consequently will be useful in continuously monitoring metallurgical changes in the amalgam surface.
