Abstract

This article reports and evaluates published research on the verbal communication process in school-based consultation. Topical sections include the work of Bergan and his colleagues, behavioral consultation, training, expectations, and school organization. It is concluded that the research has been heavily influenced by its functionalist roots, and that these research approaches may not do justice to the complex realities of school-based consultation.
