Abstract

This paper describes the payload embarked on board the european satellite Artemis. The Artemis payload includes three communication systems: the SlKa band IOL access (SKDR) payload, for demonstration and pre-operation of a data relay service in the S band (2 GHz) and Ka band(23126 GHz) the L band Land Mobile (LLM) payload providing two way communication services for data and voice to mobile terrestrial vehicles over the european territory the Optical Data Relay (ODR) payload to demonstrate intersatellite communication at high data rates in the optical band (8001900 nm wavelenght). Artemis will be launched in 1996 and it will be followed in 1998 and beyond by the Data Relay System (DRS) satellites, which will constitute the european In-Orbit infrastructure (101) to support future communications and earth observation missions.
