Abstract

Abstract Valedictory lectures are rare occasions. Most academics give inaugural lectures when they take up a professorial chair, and leave quietly when the time has come. The idea of a scholar reflecting back on his or her career and life, however, is in many respects an appealing one. This is especially true if the professional career is as distinguished and the personal history as unusual as they are in the case of Peter Pulzer.
