Abstract

Liquid metal convection forced by magnetic field causes changes in heat release of the casting and alloy constituents distribution. This work describes change in copper distribution in columnar crystals zone in Cu–Al alloys solidifying with forced convection in rotational magnetic field. It was found that copper distribution changes caused by forced motion of liquid phase are the reason for columnar to equiaxed transition and the change of crystals growth direction.
