Abstract

In a recent paper by Falls, Freda and Cohen 1 a cutaneous test based on the intradermal injection of human colostrum was described. The theoretical background for the test was based on sensitivity to the colostral substances during the nonpregnant state and absence of sensitivity during pregnancy. TECHNIC The technic of the test in our study and the source of material utilized were made to conform as closely as possible to that of the original paper. Colostrum was obtained from primiparous pregnant women after at least twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy. The material was diluted to twice its volume with sterile isotonic solution of sodium chloride, and merthiolate solution was added as preservative. One-fiftieth cc. of dilute colostrum and a similar quantity of isotonic solution of sodium chloride as a control wheal were injected intradermally in adjacent areas.
